Burial Notes

1620 - 1696


1. The following is written down the margin of the first page of the register: "Ill man why shoulds`t thou take care; To lengthen out thy life`s short callender:; When every spectacle thou lookest upon; Presents and acts thy execution:; Each droupeing season and each flower doth crye; as I fade and in the dust do lie"    

2. Transcript suggests the widow`s name may be Helena of Whitfield.

3. `Inventa mortua in tumulo niveo` (Discovered dead in a mound of snow)    

4. `Alienigena nativitate de Padfeilde` (Foreign birth?)  

5. `Torrente juxta Eden Booth in Com: Cestriae submersus` (Found submerged in a stream near Eden Booth in the county of Chester)

6. `Patruus Thomae MORTEN of Lees Hall`

7. `mortuus inventus in puteo arido juxta Clausuram Thomae DIDSBURIE` (Found in a dry well near enclosure belonging to Thomas Didsbury)  

8. `Servant of Thomas HAGH of Hadfield & son of HINCHCLIFFE of Holmeforth`

9. `Borealis advena per sex menses sholaris ms? incidit in februm in festo scti Thomae et ultimum diem clausit in festo die circumcisionis et sepultus fuit die`

20. `This Register was from this day kept by Mr. William BAGSHAWE Minr. called to and employed in the cure of soules in Glossoppe since the 24 June 1651`

21.  `After this came out ye Act made by the Nominall little PARLIAMENT which took ye Register out of ye Ministers hands`     

22. `A true Register of all the burialls wich hav been at Glossop since XXIX of September 1653 made by William NEWTON register for the said parish`   

23. `Upon or about ye 5th of November 1659 was ye Register redelivered into ye Minrs. hands - since which time:   

24. This entry is the only one between March 1667 & March 1673 & I couldn`t find it in the register.      

25. `A true Register of all the burialls att Glossoppe Church since the 20 day of April 1673 per me Gulielmus WAGSTAFFE Mar: 1673`
