Philip Horrobin`s Account Books
1853 to 1880
Joyce Winfield has very kindly loaned me a number of books relating to Fernilee. Several are account books for Philip HORROBIN - of varying size but originally with a clasp. The first book, which begins in 1853 and details products sold; who to and the cost. He seems to have sold cheese, hay & pigs but particularly butter. I have extracted dates (which are in the order of the book) & product where the purchaser is shown. He also seems to act as a money lender and bank. Later in the book, when money is given to him, HORROBIN details not only who gave it but what bank the note was drawn on plus its serial number. The second of the two books which begins in 1866 shows only details about Bank Notes. For example:
